Environmental

There has been much debate and news regarding Global Warming / Climate change.

The Miss World New Zealand/Miss Earth New Zealand Organisation is committed to protecting our environment, however we believe in a common sense approach.

For us we believe this starts at home and is an individual responsibility. With a growing population on the planet we are putting stress on our natural resources, ie. water, forests, land.

As a race we are great consumers and with that comes waste and if not managed correctly adds to pollution.

Do you Recycle your waste Paper, plastics, glass and metal cans etc?
Are you conservative in your use of Water, Energy?

The Earths Climate has been changing over millions of years and we are now in a warming cycle. The current debate is are we as humans having an effect on the climate? And are we able to make changes to influence or change the rate of global warming?

Below are links to web sites which give some of the facts related to Climate Change.

Miss World NZ winners take part in EnergyWise Rally 2004

Both Miss Earth New Zealand 2004 and Miss Tourism World New Zealand 2004 will be crewing in participating cars in EnergyWise Rally 2004.

Palmerston North’s Rachael Tucker, Miss Earth New Zealand 2004, will be navigating for prominent Christchurch motoring journalist Brian Cowan in a Toyota Prius electric-petrol hybrid. Accompanying Race to the Sky promoter Grant Aitken in a Honda Civic petrol-electric hybrid will be Nadia Goldbert of Rotorua, Miss Tourism World 2004.

The Miss World New Zealand contest has been split this year to produce two winners, each of whom will travel to different contests overseas. “It’s great for EnergyWise Rally 2004 to be able to gain the participation of both young ladies, as it will add to the image of the event as well as giving them the chance to contribute to something which will raise the public profile of the motorist’s role in conserving energy,” said event orgniser Graeme Barlow. “They will also have the chance to meet and socialise with a number of prominent sportspeople, media personalities and community leaders who will also be involved in the event.”

Both the Toyota Prius and Honda Civic Hybrid are potential winners of the 1619 kilometre drive.

Press Statement:

Articles have recently appeared in the New Zealand Woman's Weekly and Sunday Star-Times regarding Marina McCartney who was Miss New Zealand in 1996.

Firstly in the Woman's Weekly article it states that Marina represented New Zealand at both Miss World and Miss Universe in 1997. This is incorrect as Marina only went to Miss Universe in 1996 and was not the first Polynesian to attend either of these contests, there were at least four others who went before her.

Miss World 1996 was attended by Miss World New Zealand, Kelly Mischewski. In 1997 Miss World NZ's Lauralee Martinovich went to Miss World and was placed first runner-up.

Sunday Star-Times states that Marina now has the rights to run a pageant to send a contestant to Miss World. This is correct however she is saying that she now has Miss World New Zealand, which is incorrect. Marina is not associated with Miss World New Zealand Ltd in any way. She confuses this more so in that she has approached Miss World NZ 2003, Amber Peebles and asked Amber to attend Miss World 2004. Selecting a contestant by these means is contrary to Miss World rules.
