Claire
hails from the Manawatu region and lives in the town
of Fielding where she lives with her parents and two
other sisters. She also has a twin sister who lives
in the South Island.
She loves
adrenaline rushes, so new experiences that require
courage to overcome fear are right up her alley. She
has interests in sport and in particular horse
riding and competing. She has two horses of her own
which require a lot of commitment.
Claire has
developed an interest in the art of making coffee
and enjoys her work at a local cafe. She plans to
study for a formal Barista qualification. She say's
it satisfying feeling to improve another person's
day with a good coffee!
Claire had the
opportunity to visit India for 3 months in 2006. She
travelled there with a friend and worked as
volunteers in orphanages. For her it was a definite
shift in perspective, experiencing a different
culture and seeing how many people in other
countries live. She never wants to get so
comfortable that she forgets about those less
fortunate than herself.
Other community
work has involved mentoring a troubled young
teenager full time for a year. She has also been
awarded the President's Volunteer Service Award 2005
(USA).
An enthusiastic
vibrant person who loves to smile and make the
people around her feel good, Claire likes to also
make people laugh. Her ambition in life is to leave
the world a better place than when she came into it
by having a positive impact on each person she
meets.
